Social Justice

Commitment to Justice and Inclusion: Justice and compassion are central to our mission. We embrace diversity and strive for community wholeness, welcoming all people, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ability, or background. As followers of Jesus, we stand in solidarity with those who are marginalized and oppressed.

Supporting LGBTQ+ Justice: As a Reconciling Congregation since 1987, we actively welcome and affirm LGBTQ+ individuals and allies, continually reaffirming our commitment to full inclusion.

Advancing Racial Justice: Dumbarton is dedicated to being an antiracist church. Our Antiracism Task Force works to dismantle racism within our community, acknowledging our historical challenges and striving for systemic change.

Addressing Poverty, Hunger, and Homelessness

  • Washington Interfaith Network: As a founding member, we collaborate to build affordable housing and support job opportunities in D.C.

  • Georgetown Ministry Center: We support this center in serving unhoused individuals, providing meals and engaging with the community.

Supporting Justice in Palestine/Israel: We advocate for a just peace in Palestine/Israel, sponsoring resolutions like the 2023 “Identifying and Opposing Apartheid in the Holy Land,” which condemns actions that perpetuate violence.

Supporting Immigrants: Dumbarton partners with Just Neighbors to support the immigrant community, fostering mutual understanding and providing legal assistance.

Children, Youth, and Adult Ministries

Discovery Groups: These groups meet monthly, offering fellowship, discussion, and spiritual growth in various locations and online.

Children & Youth: Children are always welcome in worship! Child Care is available for infants, toddlers, and young children downstairs in the nursery/playground. All children (and parents) are always welcome at the Children’s Table at the back of the worship space for quiet activities during worship.

Our youth participate fully in worship and are invited to enjoy the youth lounge (in the balcony of the sanctuary).

Adult Education: Join us on Sundays before worship for discussions on current issues, history, and research, held in person and on Zoom.
