Frequently Asked Questions

What is the focus of Dumbarton United Methodist Church?

Our focus is on serving others. We extend our mission beyond the church walls, engaging with both global and local issues through advocacy, education, and action. We’re committed to social justice, world peace, and helping those in need, whether it’s through supporting the homeless or teaching disadvantaged children. Our efforts have even received national recognition.

How are children and youth welcomed at Dumbarton?

We warmly welcome children and youth as an important part of our community. For our youngest members, we offer child care in the nursery. Older youth can relax and participate in worship from the youth lounge located in the balcony of the sanctuary. This fall, we’re excited to introduce Godly Play, a special program that helps younger kids learn and grow through storytelling and play.

Where can I park when visiting Dumbarton United Methodist Church on Sunday?

Parking in DC’s Georgetown is generally easy on Sunday mornings. From morning until early afternoon, you can park on P Street NW, on both sides of the street, from Wisconsin Avenue NW to 30th & P Streets NW.

How should I dress for Sunday service?

Come as you are. We’re a casual congregation, especially during the summer months. We bring our hearts and souls to worship, not our outfits—except maybe on Easter when we dress up a bit more.

How do I get involved?

There are plenty of opportunities to get involved at Dumbarton United Methodist Church. Whether it’s through social missions, adult education, choir, or celebrations, there’s a place for you. As a medium-sized church, we value the impact of committed members—you won’t get lost in the crowd here.
