At Dumbarton, we prioritize social justice and explore how our faith informs our understanding of the pressing societal issues of today. Our presenters come from both religious and secular backgrounds, including guest speakers who are experts in their fields.
We invite deep discussion and critical thinking. While we raise thought-provoking questions together, we encourage each person to discern their own answers. Our discussions are lively, blending the perspectives of spiritual seekers, curious minds, believers, and non-believers alike.

We look forward to exploring these important topics with you.

Grandmothers Share Their Stories: Palestine
Join us on Sunday, April 12, at 10:00 a.m. EDT for a screening of a new documentary, “Grandmothers Share Their Stories: Palestine,” in Dumbarton Methodist Church. The 30-minute film documents the lives of three Palestinian grandmothers. Photographer and writer Peggy Fleming seeks out grandmothers to interview when she travels, and begins by asking, “What is it like for you to be a grandmother?” In Palestine in 2009, she interviewed three grandmothers, Claudette Habesch, Zuhdiyeh Abu Ghoush, and Fawziyeh Al-Kurd, and interviewed them again by Zoom in 2025. “Grandmothers Share Their Stories: Palestine” takes us into these grandmothers’ homes as they recall life in Palestine over the past 80 years.
The documentary is presented in English and Arabic with subtitles. Nada Nesserddin, a Palestinian living and working in Washington DC, produced and translated the film. Peggy and Nada will be with us in person to present the film and answer questions. They will be in the ground floor social hall of Dumbarton Methodist at 3133 Dumbarton St. NW, Washington, DC. The Church’s office phone is 202-333-7211
