Sermon 191229 - Service of Lessons and Carols

Today's service consisted of the singing of Christmas hymns, readings from scripture and contemporary writers, and the Blessing of the Calendars.


Luke 2:15-19 "The shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

Reading about "Joy to the World" - Isaac Watts paraphrased Psalm 98 with the words that have become lyrics for "Joy to the World".  Lowell Mason crafted the tune from pieces of Handel's Messiah and named it "Antioch"

Howard Thurman - "The Work of Christmas" - "When the song of the angels is stilled....the work of Chrismas begins: to find the lost..."

Denise Levertov "Once Only"
